Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Thursday called on Myanmar President U Win Myint in her first engagement in Myanmar.

Swaraj reached the capital of Myanmar on Thursday as part of her two-day official visit to the country.

Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the government of Myanmar, Myint Thu, received Sushma Swaraj at the airport.

The visit is part of the ongoing high-level interaction between the governments of India and Myanmar.

Swaraj also met the Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar armed forces, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

During her visit, Swaraj held discussions with the Myanmar leadership on bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest to both countries.

The discussions are expected to review progress made on decisions taken during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Myanmar in September 2017 with a view to further reinforcing bilateral ties. Several key agreements covering diverse aspects of India-Myanmar bilateral relations are expected to be signed during the visit, the statement said.

India has emerged as a key development aid partner for Myanmar.
