Six persons accused of murder in the 2020 northeast Delhi riots were granted bail by the Delhi High Court stating that there can be no “umbrella assumption of guilt” on behalf of every accused when there is a crowd involved.

The accused Mohd Shoaib, Parvez, Mohd. Tahir, Rashid, Mohd. Faisal and Shahrukh were granted bail by Justice Subramonium Prasad.

They were arrested 21 months ago for the alleged murder of a 20-year-old youth identified as Dilbar Negi.

Negi was a waiter at the house of the shop owner.

The bail plea of the six accused was opposed by the public prosecutor on grounds that they had actively participated in the riots which led to the death of the 19-year-old.
