Six Indian films to be screened at Beijing international film fest

A total of five Indian films including that of three films by great filmmaker Satyajit Ray will be screened at prestigious Beijing International Film Festival (BIFF) in China.

The 8-day film festival starting on April 13 will feature six Indian films including Satyajit Ray’s Bengali classics– Pather Panchali, Aparajito and Apur Sansar, Anand Tiwari’s Hindi film Love per Square Foot, Abhoy Chopra’s thriller Ittefaq and Mahesh Bhatt’s Hindi drama film Sir under the “Belt and Road” category of the festival.

As per reports, the festival will screen over 250 films, selected from various countries under different categories.

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) a trillion-dollar connectivity project launched by China which has been opposed by New Delhi over its key artery cutting through the disputed part of Kashmir.

It was not known immediately known why Indian films were clubbed in the “Belt and Road” category under which movies from other countries not associated with the project — like Denmark and Germany — were also put.
