Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju lauded archer Vivek Chikara for winning a gold medal at the Asian Para Archery Championship.

Rijiju, on Thursday, lauded Chikara on his โ€œsuperb performanceโ€ in a congratulatory tweet.

โ€œA superb performance from Vivek Chikara as he wins the gold medal in menโ€™s recurve open event at the Asian Para Archery Championships after a 7-1 win over Chinaโ€™s Sijun Wang,โ€ Rijiju tweeted.

The 29-year-old Indian para-archer earlier defeated South Koreaโ€™s park Jun-Beom 7-3 to set up a summit clash with Wang on Thursday.

Chikara has also qualified for the 2020 Paralympics after he finished joint ninth in the recurve menโ€™s open section at the World Para Championships in Hertogenbosch this year.

Tokyo 2020 Paralympics has 10 quota places, which include two quotas each in the menโ€™s and womenโ€™s recurve categories.
