A returnee from the UK has tested positive for Covid19 after the person landed in Assam.
The news has been confirmed by Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, claims a media report.
However, it is yet to be confirmed whether the person was infected by the new mutated variant of the Covid19 virus that has affected the UK.
It will come to light only after three days, the minister said.
The minister informed that the person has been shifted to the hospital and is undergoing treatment.
On the reports of the possibility of lockdown, the minister clarified that the state government has not planned to impose any lockdown.
In the last 24 hours, Assam registered 95 new Covid19 cases, taking the total to 2,15,775.
The new cases were detected out of 21,895 tests conducted on Thursday.
Assam’s positivity rate is 0.43%.
Of the new cases, Kamrup Metro reported 47 cases.
On Thursday, 105 more patients were discharged after they recovered from the disease.
Assam currently has 3,456 active Covid19 cases, which is 1.60% of the total cases.
So far a total of 2,11,283 people have recovered, which is 97.91% of the total positive cases registered in Assam.
On Thursday, four more people succumbed to Covid19, taking the death toll to 1,033.
The deceased were identified as Gopal Sah (68) of Tinsukia; Tulokhi Saikia (58) of Kamrup Metro; Satnam Singh (73) of Cachar and Upendra Narayan Verma (52) of Kamrup.
