Congress leaders and members have started a campaign for party leader Rahul Gandhi‘s return as All India Congress Committee (AICC) president.

A minister in the Rajasthan government on Wednesday met Congress party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi and requested her to bring back Rahul Gandhi as the president of the party.

Ramesh Meena said they “have kept our point” because only Rahul Gandhi can give strong leadership against what the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre is doing.

According to Meena, Sonia Gandhi allowed them to put forth their views on the matter, said a media report.

Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel recently said only Rahul Gandhi can handle the Congress party.

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said in the current situation of the country, the party needs Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and the workers have the same demand.

The report quoted sources as saying that a ‘Rahul Raga’ campaign has been started among the Congress members.

Rahul Gandhi resigned as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president after the party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

Following days of deliberations, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) approved the resignation of Rahul Gandhi and appointed former president Sonia Gandhi as the interim president of the party.

Meanwhile, under the leadership of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the Congress Working Committee meeting began on Saturday at the All India Congress Committee headquarters in New Delhi.
