Phishing attack: Was offered fake Harvard University professorship, says journalist and former NDTV anchor Nidhi Razdan

Noted journalist and former primetime anchor and Executive Editor of NDTV Nidhi Razdan has ended up becoming a victim of phishing attack.

Nidhi Razdan’s offer of professorship at the Harvard University in Massachusetts, United States has been found as fake.

Nidhi Razdan herself made this sensational revelation of her being a victim of infamous phishing attack.

Phishing attack is a type of social engineering attack often used to steal user data, including login credentials and credit card numbers.

It occurs when an attacker, masquerading as a trusted entity, dupes a victim into opening an email, instant message, or text message.

Nidhi Razdan informed that she is a victim of a ‘sophisticated and coordinated’ phishing attack, wherein through ‘forgeries and misrepresentations’ and access to her private email IDs and devices, the false offer was presented to her.

“I did not, in fact, receive an offer by the Harvard University to join their faculty as an associate professor of Journalism. The perpetrators of this attack used clever forgeries and misrepresentations to obtain access to my personal data to my devices and my email/social media accounts,” Nidhi Razdan stated in her public statement.

Razdan further said that she was made to believe her teaching tenure at the Harvard University was to begin in September 2020, which had been pushed to January 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic.

She also gave a number of interviews in regards to the offer which led to the decision of quitting NDTV, she was a part of for 21 long years.

Meanwhile, Nidhi Razdan has filed a complaint with the police and has also written to Harvard University authorities in regards to the case.

“I have filed a complaint with the police and provided them with all relevant documentary evidence. I have requested them to take immediate steps to identify, apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators of this abominable attack,” Nidhi Razdan informed.
