A preliminary study of coronavirus positive patients in China, people with blood type A may be more vulnerable to infection and those with type O seem to offer more resistant.

A team of medical researchers in China collected blood patterns of over 2,000 coronavirus patients in Wuhan and Shenzhen and compared them to local healthy populations.

In their study, the research team found that blood type A patients showed a higher rate of infection.

“Patients with blood group A also tended to develop more severe symptoms,” the research added.

“However, this is only a preliminary study and more work needs to be done,” the team said.

The medical research team said they urged governments and medical facilities to consider blood type differences when planning mitigation measures or treating patients.

They further said that people of blood group A may need particularly strengthened personal protection to reduce the chance of infection.
