Over 1 crore COVID-19 tests have been conducted in India so far, the Indian Council of Medical Research or ICMR said on Monday.

The union health ministry in a statement said, “With a single-day jump of 24,248 cases, India’s overall COVID-19 tally almost touched the 7 lakh mark on Monday.”

“The death toll due to COVID-19 climbed to 19,693 with 425 new fatalities,” the ministry added.

ICMR media coordinator Dr Lokesh Sharma said, “A cumulative total of 1,00,04,101 samples have been tested till 11 am on Monday with 1,80,596 samples being tested on July 5.”

It may be mentioned here that the country now has 1,105 COVID-19 testing labs with 788 in the public sector and 317 in the private sector.

“Around 2,00,000 samples have been tested on an average daily for the last 14 days,” Dr Sharma added.
