Odisha Police has sought applications from the transgender community for the posts of sub-inspectors and constables.
The Odisha Police Recruitment Board has invited online applications from men, women and 6transgenders for appointment in 477 posts of sub-inspectors and 244 posts of constables (communication).

The recruitment portal of the Odisha Police will open on June 22 and close on July 15.
A media report quoted Odisha director general of police Abhay as saying that they have invited qualified women and men to join the Odisha Police as constables (communication) and SIs to serve the people of the state.
He said for the first time they have invited people belonging to the transgender category to apply for both the posts of SI and constable.

The Odisha DGP said the sub-inspectors will be posted in main police cadre and the constable (communications) post is a technical cadre.
According to the notification issued by the Odisha Police said differently-abled people would not be eligible to apply for the posts.
The notification said: “Transgender candidates are eligible to apply, PWD (Persons with Disabilities) are not eligible to apply.”
For the post of sub-inspector, the minimum qualification is graduation and for the post of constable (communication), the candidates should have passed in Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent examinations conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha or by any other recognised Board or Council.
Besides, the candidates for the post of constable (communication) must have done diploma in Computer Application or equivalent course from a recognised institution duly affiliated by the government.
The candidates (constable) should be able to speak, read and write Odia and must have passed Odia as one of the subjects in the HSLC examination.
According to reports, the Odisha government earlier decided to recruit transgenders as jail warders but no notification has been issued in this regard so far.
