Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai gets married in UK

Activist and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai got married on Tuesday at her home in United Kingdom’s Birmingham. 

24-year-old Pakistani human rights campaigner Malala Yousafzai announced her wedding with Asser Malik on social media on Tuesday.

She married Asser Malik at a solemn nikah ceremony at her Birmingham home.

Many social media users have identified Asser Malik as the general manager of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s high-performance centre in Lahore.

“Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead,” Malala tweeted.

Malala Yousafzai was born in Pakistan. She was shot at by Taliban terrorists in 2012 when she was only 11 for speaking out publicly on behalf of girls and their right to education. 

In 2014, after months of surgeries and rehabilitation, she joined her family in their new home in the United Kingdom. 

In recognition of her work for education for girls, Malala Yousafzai received the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2014. 

She became the youngest-ever Nobel laureate. Later, she went on to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford and graduated in 2020.
