Union finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a fertilizer subsidy worth Rs 65,000 crores for farmers.

This subsidy will ensure the availability of adequate fertilizes to farmers across the country

It will also enable farmers to access fertilizers on time in the upcoming crop season.

The fertilizer subsidy forms part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat 3.0 stimulus package which the minister announced on Thursday.

The subsidy is also expected to increase the consumption of fertilizers from 499 lakh tonnes in 2016-17 to 673 lakh tonnes in 2020-21.

The minister further said an additional outlay of Rs 10,000 crores will be provided under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rozgar Yojana in the current financial year to facilitate the growth of the rural economy.
