Nigeria: At least 200 people killed in Bandit attacks

Motorcycle bourne gunmen have killed at least 200 people in north-western Zamfara in Nigeria in past few days.

As per a report by the BBC, gangs on motorcycles have been attacking several villages with arms.

The gangs which are locally called bandits are said to be sophisticated networks of criminals.

They operate across large territories and they are involved in stealing animals, kidnapping for ransom and also killing people.

The Nigerian government has officially labelled these bandits as terrorists this week.

The government has allowed security forces to impose tougher sanctions on these groups and also their supporters.

Last Friday, a report stated that more than 100 people were killed by suspected bandits.

Locals stated that the bandits burnt their homes and also mutilated the bodies of the deceased.

A spokesperson for Humanitarian Affairs Minister Sadiya Umar Farouq reportedly said that more than 200 people had been buried while more than 10,000 people had been left homeless.

She added that many people are still missing.
