Following an untoward incident in the Nirmal Haloi College, Patacharkuchi after alleged slapping of the general secretary of the students’ union by the college principal, the students’ union decided to boycott classes.
The students’ union has decided to boycott classes for indefinite period until the removal or resignation of the principal.

According to allegations leveled by the general secretary of the students’ union, Manash Jyoti Das, Dr Bhupesh Sarma, the principal of the college, on Thursday slapped him in front of the students of the college while he asked the principal why he violated the rules of the college.
It may be mentioned here that the principal on January 31 hanged one notice on the notice board of the college in which it was mentioned that the college gate would remain closed for students, teachers and employees of the college from 10 am to 3 pm for all vehicles as it disturbs the academic environment.
The principal through the notice also requested all to abide by the policy of the authority.

On Thursday, when the principal arrived at the college at around 10.30 am and asked the gatekeeper to open the gate, at that moment the students’ union general secretary asked the principal why he was going to violate his own rule and in the next moment after some altercation the principal slapped the general secretary.
In the next moment, the students protested the incident and shouted slogans against the principal.
Police also arrived at the college to control the situation.
The students’ union of the college on Thursday held one emergent meeting in the college and decided to boycott classes for indefinite period demanding removal of the principal from the college or his immediate resignation.
Manash Jyoti Das also filed an FIR at Patacharkuchi Police Station and the principal also filed a counter FIR against four students of the college.
