Guwahati: A candidate from Nagpur preparing to appear for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination was left shocked after the National Testing Agency (NTA) mistakenly assigned him an examination centre in Abu Dhabi, despite opting for a location in Maharashtra.

The student, Abdullah, discovered the discrepancy upon receiving his admit card for the medical entrance test scheduled for June 21. The unexpected overseas allotment triggered concern within the family, as international travel documents and visa arrangements could not be secured within such a limited timeframe.

The issue was promptly brought to the notice of the examination authorities. After reviewing the matter, the NTA admitted that the incorrect centre allocation resulted from a technical error during the admit card generation process.

Officials assured the candidate that corrective action would be taken immediately and confirmed that a revised admit card would be issued, assigning him a centre in Nagpur as originally requested.

The NEET-UG 2026 re-examination is being conducted after the earlier test, held on May 3, was annulled amid allegations of procedural lapses and irregularities. The decision to reconduct the examination was taken to maintain the integrity of the admission process for medical courses across the country.

Meanwhile, authorities have intensified preparations ahead of Sunday’s examination. On June 20, a nationwide mock drill was carried out at examination centres to assess readiness and strengthen security arrangements.

The exercise aimed to ensure seamless coordination among officials, verify infrastructure and surveillance systems, and facilitate the smooth conduct of the re-examination for lakhs of aspiring medical students.
