This was 62% more than the area that was under drought in 2020. Some parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and some north-eastern states like Nagaland were under severe drought conditions.
Data released by Drought Early Warning System (DEWS) showed that 1.63% of the area is under extremely dry conditions, and 2.17% of cultivable land was under ‘severe’ dry conditions. All over 7.38% of the area was under abnormally dry conditions.
“While it is very difficult to prevent crop loss during the cyclonic floods but crop failures because of far-fetched droughts can be prevented if the right steps are taken,” says the director of Oriplast, H.V Aggarwal.
