Sleuths of narcotics cell of Manipur Police seized a cake of contraband heroin worth Rs 42 lakh in Imphal on the first day of New Year.

It was a routine check at a place near the Lamlong Girls Higher Secondary school at Lamlong bazaar area around 6.30 pm. The team led by sub-inspector M Shabbir Ahamed seized the white cake weighing around 350 grams from the possession of an individual.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of additional superintendent of police Wungpam Kasar, deputy superintendent of police Roni Mayengbam and officer in charge (Narcotics cell) Kh Devkumar Singh of Imphal East district police.

The arrested individual has been identified as one Wilson Keishing (47) of Sailent village under Laikoiching in Manipur’s Senapati district.

The seized narcotic drug and arrested individual were produced before the media persons during a press conference addressed by Superintendent of Police K Kabib of Imphal East district police at its headquarters at Porompat on Tuesday morning.

“The value of the seized cake of heroin no.4 may be worth of Rs 42 lakhs,” police said in a press statement issued on Tuesday. “Hence the case will be handed over to Porompat police station for further necessary legal actions,” it added.

Many expressed concern over the seizing of such narcotics drugs in the form of cake in the state.
