Lakhimpur Kheri violence: Union minister’s son Ashish Mishra skips SIT questioning, ‘flees to Nepal’

Ashish Mishra, son of union minister Ajay Mishra, has failed to appear before the SIT (Special Investigation Team) probing the violence that broke out at Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3 during a farmers’ protest. 

According to reports, Ashish Mishra has fled to Nepal. Ashish was summoned to appear at 10am at the crime branch office in the reserve police lines on Friday. However, he failed to turn up at the given time.

According to reports, the police had been tracking Ashish Mishra’s mobile phone and his location was found to be near Gauriphanta on the Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border. 

“We have alerted our counterparts in Uttarakhand and also Nepal, and teams have been set up to search for him,” a senior police official was quoted as saying by news agency IANS.

At least eight people lost their lives in the unprecedented violence at Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh on October 3.  

The violence broke out after Ashish Mishra, son of union minster Ajay Mishra, had allegedly mowed down farmers killing at least four farmers and injuring several others. 

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a judicial panel to probe the ‘violence’ that broke out at Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3 during a farmers’ protest. 

The UP government has constituted a one-member panel comprising retired Allahabad High Court judge Pradeep Kumar Srivastava, which will submit report of its findings within two months.
