The special investigation team (SIT) probing the October 3 Lakhimpur Kheri violence during the farmers’ protest was a “pre-planned” conspiracy to kill farmers. 

Union minister Ajay Mishra’s jailed son Ashish Mishra is the main accused in the case.

The SIT probing case has also filed an application before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) to include sections against the 13 accused to make their offence punishable under attempt to murder charges. 

Ashish Mishra and the other accused are already booked under murder and conspiracy charges.

The SIT has pleaded for addition of “attempt to murder” and other charges against the accused in the case. 

At least eight people were killed on October 3 at Lakhimpur Kheri during a farmers’ protest. 

After four farmers were run over, allegedly by an SUV driven by Ashish Mishra, violence broke out in which four more, including a journalist, were killed. 

The SIT has so far arrested Ashish Mishra, Luvkush, Ashish Pandey, Shekhar Bharti, Ankit Das, Latif, Sishupal, Nandan Singh, Satyam Tripathi, Sumit Jaiswal, Dharmendra Banjara, Rinku Rana and Ullas Trivedi. 

They are lodged in the Lakhimpur Kheri district jail.
