Lakhimpur Kheri incident: UP court denies bail to Union minister Ajay Mishra’s son

Union minister of state for home Ajay Misra’s son Ashish and his aide were denied bail by an Uttar Pradesh court in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri incident where 8 people were killed.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Chinta Ram on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of Ashish Mishra and his aide Ashish Pandey, says a media report.

Meanwhile, a monitoring committee, which is investigating the case, arrested Ankit Das in connection with Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

Das was on Wednesday presented before the Magistrate, who remanded him to three-day police custody from October 14-17 and judicial custody till October 22.

Shekhar Bharti, a staff member of Ankit Das was also remanded to 3-day police custody.

Das surrendered before the police on Tuesday. He reportedly admitted that he had escaped to Nepal on October 8.

It has been reported that the UP Police Crime Branch cross-questioned Ashish Mishra and Ankit Das for an hour.

Das during the interrogation reportedly revealed that Ashish was not present in the Fortuner during the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

He claimed that no firing took place during the incident.

So far, Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested a total of 5 people in connection with the Kheri incident including Ashish Mishra and Lavkush.

Mishra was arrested on October 9 after 13 hours of questioning, according to reports.

A Congress delegation comprising Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday met President Ram Nath Kovind and submitted a letter demanding that Union minister of state for home affairs Ajay Mishra be sacked and the incident be probed by sitting Supreme Court judges.
