The Indian Railways has introduced the smart train window to provide passengers with a new travelling experience and ensure their privacy during a journey.

The AC1 coach of the New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express is the first to be upgraded with the feature, which will gradually be extended to other trains in the future.

The smart windows provide a high level of optical quality, privacy, and reliability to passengers, a report stated.

According to sources in the Indian Railways, the smart window becomes ‘opaque’ in color when the light inside the train is switched on.

The feature of the smart makes it impossible for people outside the train from viewing the interiors of the coaches, thereby protecting the privacy of the passengers while travelling.

These windows also block the harsh ultraviolet rays of the sun and unwanted lights from outside the train, thereby allowing passengers to recline comfortably in their seats.

The Ministry of Railways has plans to propose measures in the next union budget to increase the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation’s revenue manifold.
