The Gujarat government has now planned to conduct a plasma transfusion technique to treat COVID-19 patients in the state.
With the number of coronavirus cases rising to 1275 in the state on Saturday, the state government is now looking to use plasma transfusion technique.
As per reports, the civil hospital in Ahmedabad and the civic body-run SVP Hospital here have prepared a detailed proposal about the plasma transfusion treatment for coronavirus patients and submitted it to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for approval.
The plasma transfusion technique is a process in which blood plasma from a patient who has recovered from COVID-19 is transfused into a coronavirus positive patient so that the specific antibodies present in the blood of the recovered person can help fight the infection.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had recently said that doctors will be trying out the plasma technique on coronavirus patients in the state.
“The ultimate solution for coronavirus will be a vaccine. But we have two challenges right now — to stop the spread of the virus and to cure all those who got the infection. For the first, implementation of the lockdown is important,” Kejriwal told reporters in Delhi on Thursday.
On the second challenge, Kejriwal said on the serious patients, the scope of survival increases after the plasma technique.
