A court in Bengaluru has framed charges against 18 accused in the sensational murder case of activist-journalist Gauri Lankesh. 

All the eighteen accused were produced before the trial court in Bengaluru via video conferencing from the Bengaluru Central Jail, Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai and the Yerwada Jail in Pune.

Well-known journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead in front of her residence in Bengaluru on September 5, 2017. 

All the arrested 18 accused in the sensational murder case were affiliated to fringe pro-Hindu groups.

The accused have been charged under section 302, 120B, 114, 118, 109, 201, 203, 204, 35 of the Indian Penal code. Section 25 (1), 25 (1B), 27 (1) of the Arms Act and Sections 3(1) (i), 3(2), 3(3), 3(4) of the Karnataka Organised Crime Act. 

The SIT formed to probe the case had identified the shooter as Parashuram Waghmare.  

Amol Kale has been named as accused number one. Amit Degwekar and Sujith Kumar have been named as the prime conspirators who planned the murder.
