The development was confirmed by Akhilesh Yadav himself.
Akhilesh Yadav also urged all those who came in contact with him in recent times, to get themselves tested.
Taking to the social media, Akhilesh Yadav said: “My COVID-19 test result has returned positive. I have placed myself in isolation at home itself. All those who came in contact with me in the past few days, I request them all to get themselves tested and stay in isolation till then.”

On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also placed himself under isolation after some officials in his office tested positive for COVID-19.
“Some officers of my office have tested positive for the coronavirus. Some of them were in contact with me. Hence, as a precaution, I have isolated myself and started my work virtually,” he tweeted in Hindi.

Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday recorded its highest-ever daily spike.
Uttar Pradesh, the most populous State in the country on Tuesday reported 18,021 cases and 85 deaths.
“In the past 24 hours, 18,021 fresh cases were reported while 3,474 people were discharged in this period. There are 95,980 active cases while 6,18,293 were treated and discharged. The state reported a total of 9,309 deaths till now since the start of the pandemic,” Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (Health) – Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters on Tuesday.
