Farm laws must be given a chance, Government open for talks: PM Narendra Modi in Rajya Sabha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed that the three newly passed farm laws must be given a chance.

PM Narendra Modi said this while replying to the Motion of Thanks on President Ram Nath Kovind’s address in Rajya Sabha.

Requesting the protesting farmers to go back, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated that the Government is open for talks.

PM Narendra Modi further said that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system is here to stay.

PM Narendra Modi said, “MSP was there. MSP is there. MSP will remain in the future. Affordable ration for the poor will continue. Mandis will be modernised.”

“NDA’s other schemes also help farmers. For example – the PMGSY. When the road connectivity improves, it enables the produce of the farmers to reach distant places. There are efforts like Kisan Rail too. The need of the hour is to improve the lives of the small farmers,” PM Narendra Modi added.

PM Narendra Modi said that opposition to the Centre’s newly passed farm laws lacks in substance and that they have been stalled for decades.

“Since 2014 we have initiated changes in the agriculture sector aimed at empowering the farmer. The crop insurance scheme was changed to make it more farmer friendly. The PM-KISAN scheme was also brought in. We are working for the small farmers,” PM Narendra Modi further stated.

“Sharad Pawar, those from Congress and everyone – all Governments have stood for agricultural reforms. Whether they were able to do it or not, but everyone has advocated that it should be done,” PM Narendra Modi said in Rajya Sabha.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there is a need to protect the nation from a new FDI which he referred to as “Foreign Destructive Ideology”.

“The nation is making progress and we are talking about FDI but I see that a new FDI has come to the fore. We have to protect the nation from this new FDI. We need Foreign Direct Investment but the new FDI is ‘Foreign Destructive Ideology’, we have to protect ourselves from it,” PM Narendra Modi said.
