Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test-fired a new generation nuclear capable ballistic missile โ€“ Agni P.

Agni P was test fired from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam island off the coast of Odisha, Balasore at 10:55 am on Monday.

Agni P is a new generation advanced variant of Agni class of missiles. It is a canisterised missile with range capability between 1,000 and 2,000 kms.

โ€œVarious telemetry and radar stations positioned along the eastern coast tracked and monitored the missile. The missile followed textbook trajectory, meeting all mission objectives with high level of accuracy,โ€ the DRDO said in a statement.

The new Agni P can be used to target enemy warships in the Indo-Pacific.

Earlier, last week, the DRDO has successfully test fired extended range version of indigenously developed Pinaka rocket from a Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL).
