The Naga Hoho feels that the framework agreement signed between the NSCN (IM) and the government of India on August 3, 2015 may vanish into thin air.

Three years after the signing of the framework agreement, the Naga Hoho issued a statement on Friday expressing apprehension that it appears highly unlikely that a final agreement will be inked to resolve the Naga issue despite claims by different Indian agencies that Indo-Naga peace deal is very much in advanced stage and the pact is likely to be signed any time.

The organisation said that the Naga people’s hopes have been crushed again as ‘…last bet for signing the Agreement is during the ensuing Monsoon session of Parliament.

The apex Naga tribal body said it is time for the Naga political negotiators to rethink whether to go ahead with the present system of negotiation without finding any tangible solution or they will continue sitting in their “cosy confinements” in Delhi.

“We believe that India is not prepared for honourable political solution, but will try to buy more and more time blaming the conflict of interest among the Nagas,” it stated.

The hoho also feels that the Naga people should not expect any political solution in many more years to come if it goes beyond September 2018 considering the forthcoming parliamentary elections in India.

It said enough of negotiations and agreement have been done during the last 21 years of formal and informal political dialogues between the Naga political negotiators and the different interlocutors on behalf of the Centre.

Despite that, the Naga Hoho lamented, the government of India is unable to sign the peace agreement rather it is exhibiting an uncompromising attitude and flexibility on symbolic issues which are very dear to the Nagas.

Asking for how many years more the Nagas will be in dilemma or continue to be in the state of being neither here or there, the Naga Hoho said the Nagas are running behind time and years and therefore must once and for all decide collectively which one is the best option for us.

Meanwhile, the state unit of BJP reiterated the party’s support to the talks held between the government of India and the various Naga political groups while stating that the people of Nagaland and other Naga inhabited areas were eagerly waiting for a final and peaceful settlement of the decades old Naga issue.
