4 CRPF jawans killed, 3 hurt as colleague opens fire at Sukma in Chhattisgarh

A total of 4 CRPF jawans were killed and 3 others were injured after a jawan opened fire at his colleagues in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.

The jawan, who opened fire at his fellow Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldiers, has been identified as Reetesh Ranjan.

According to an official statement, Ranjan opened fire at his fellow soldiers at around 3.45 am in the CRPF camp of 50th battalion in Linganpalli village under Maraiguda police station of Sukma district.

The area is located nearly 400 km from Raipur, the state capital of Chhattisgarh.

Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said as per preliminary information, the jawan fired at his colleagues with his service rifle – AK-47.

A total of 7 personnel were seriously injured in the incident and were immediately rushed to Bhadrachalam area hospital for treatment, however, 4 of them succumbed to the injuries.

The CRPF personnel, who lost their lives in the incident, have been identified as constables Rajmani Kumar Yadav, Rajib Mondal, Dhanji and Dharmendra Kumar.

It has been reported that 2 of the injured CRPF jawans are being airlifted to Raipur for treatment.

The CRPF official said the motive behind the firing is yet to be ascertained and an investigation is on.

Constable Reetesh Ranjan has been arrested and interrogation is going on, the CRPF official said.

The CRPF has also ordered a court of inquiry to probe the incident.
