With the detection of 53,370 new positive cases and 650 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID19 positive tally increased to 78,14,682 on Saturday.
India recorded the spike in COVID19 positive cases on Saturday after dipping below 47,000 four days back.
India continued to maintain active cases below 7 lakh for the second day.
According to data from the Union health ministry, out of the total COVID19 cases recorded in the country so far, 6,80,680 are still active and 70,16,046 other patients have been discharged.
The deadly disease has claimed the lives of 1,17,956 positive patients in the country so far.
The active cases now comprise only 8.71% of the total positive cases of the country, said Union health ministry on Saturday.
While the recovery rate stands at 89.53%, the fatality rate in the country is 1.51%.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state with a total of 16,25,197 positive cases followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
In Maharashtra, a total of 42,831 people have died of COVID19 infection.
India conducted 12,69,479 COVID19 tests on Friday, taking the total number of tests to 10,13,82,564, according to the data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
