India on Saturday recorded a single-day spike of 63,489 new COVID-19 cases, taking the nation’s overall tally to 25,89,682, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) data said on Sunday.
The death toll climbed up to 49,980 with 944 more fatalities in the last 24 hours.
Among the total case, 6,77,444 cases are still active a total of 18,62,258 COVID-19 patients have recovered so far.
In the last 24 hours, a total of 53,322 won the battle against the virus in the country.
The fatality rate dropped to 1.93 per cent, the Ministry said.
Moreover, the recovery rate had gone up to 71.91 per cent.
It may be mentioned here that the nation has been reporting over 60,000 cases daily since August 7.
However, on August 11 the country registered 53,601 new COVID-19 infections.
The ministry further informed that a total of 7,46,608 samples were tested for coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours.
The total samples tested in the country so far has reached to 2,93,09,703.
Globally, India is the third worst-hit nation, with the US and Brazil in the first and second position with 53,61,165 and 33,17,096 COVID-19 cases respectively.
A total of 2,14,59,699 people have been infected with COVID-19 globally.
