The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended.
The decision to suspend the 2021 edition of the IPL was taken by the IPL Governing Council and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting on Tuesday.

“The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL,” the IPL Governing Council said in a statement.
“This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind,” the statement added.
“These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times,” the IPL Governing Council said.

Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha and Delhi Capitals spinner Amit Mishra have tested positive for COVID-19.
Earlier, two players from the Kolkata Knight Riders – spinner Varun Chakravarthy and seam bowler Sandeep Warrier had also tested COVID-19 positive.
Two members of the Chennai Super Kings contingent – bowling coach L Balaji and a member of the maintenance staff – had also reportedly tested positive over the past two days.
