Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar on Thursday launched an anti-spitting campaign that aims to educate people about how spitting can also lead to the spread of COVID-19.

The actor has been roped in by an NGO โ€˜Pledge for Lifeโ€™ as the face of spit free India campaign.

Posting a video on Instagram, Pednekar urged her followers to join the spit-free India campaign.

โ€œWe have to defeat Coronavirus and everyone has to join hands. Leave the habit of spitting. We have to save the country,โ€ Pednekar said.

โ€œCurrently, our country is under the threat of Corona and the fatal disease spreads even by spitting!โ€ she added.

She also spoke about her previous social campaign related to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan that encouraged people to avoid open defecation and use toilets instead.

โ€œThe way we all have come together to get associated with the Toilet campaign and pledged to make the country clean. Similarly, letโ€™s pledge to make the country Corona free, by avoiding spitting here and there,โ€ she said

โ€œDo your bit, do not spit. Letโ€™s come together and join the spit-free India movement,โ€ she added.

The Centre had earlier made decided to impose fines on people found spitting in public places.
