The Congress party on Monday demanded that the fourth-year medical students be used as non-permanent resident doctors to curb the coronavirus crisis in Delhi.

During an all-party meeting that had been held by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Congress also demanded that the fourth-year students of Bachelor of Pharmacy or nursing be used as alternate for health staff.

Apart from raising these demands to meet the shortage of healthcare staff in Delhi, the Congress also urged that Rs 10,000 be paid to every family whose member is infected or in the containment zones.

The party also suggested that schools and college hostels should be used as quarantine facilities.

As per reports, the BJP demanded that 50 per cent charges should be waived off on COVID-19 tests.

The meeting had been held by the union home minister in order to address the coronavirus situation in the state.

Delhi had so far registered 41182 coronavirus cases, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The death toll due to COVID-19 in the state is 1327 and the number of active coronavirus cases is 24032.

A total of 15823 people have been cured or discharged from hospitals so far.
