India, in 2027, is likely to get its first woman Chief Justice. 

Justice BV Nagarathna is likely to become the first woman Chief Justice of India in 2027. 

Supreme Court Collegium has recommended names of nine judges, including three female judges, for the elevation to the apex court. 

Justice BV Nagarathna is among the three judges to have been elevated to the Supreme Court.

Justice BV Nagarathna is currently serving as a judge with the Karnataka High Court. 

Justice Nagarathna is likely to have a tenure of nine months as the Chief Justice of India. 

Her father – ES Venkataramiah – was also the Chief Justice of India from June 1989 to December 1989. 

Justice Hima Kohi and Justice Bela Trivedi are the other two women judges in the list of recommendations.
