At a time when the entire country is mourning the loss of over 20 brave hearts in the jungles of Chhattisgarh in a fierce encounter with the naxals, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has vowed to keep the fight on against naxalism with “full vigour”.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi said that the “Chhattisgarh Congress Govt shall continue to provide all assistance to our Central Paramilitary Forces in fighting naxalism with full vigour”.

Sonia Gandhi condoled the martyrdom of 22 jawans in the encounter with the naxals in the forests of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi said: “The entire country bows before the martyrdom of 22 jawans in the gruesome naxal attack in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. I pay homage to these jawans who have given their lives, and heartfelt condolences to their families.”

“The Nation owes an enormous debt of gratitude to them,” added Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi said: “In fervently hope for the return of our missing soldiers, and look forward to the complete recovery of those injured.”

“We are united in our resolve to combat naxalism,” added Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

The death toll in the Bijapur Naxal encounter rose to 24 on Sunday.

According to reports, a search operation for those missing is underway.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that the State Government is not afraid of such attacks and is determined to carry out development work in each and every village.

“The damage caused to the security forces in the encounter is very tragic. But the morale of the security forces is still strong and only we will win this fight against Naxal violence,” Bhupesh Baghel said.
