The Centre, on Thursday, has extended the validity of vehicle documents such as driving licence, vehicle registration certificate and other permits, till October 31.
The decision was taken by the Centre owing to the current COVID-19 situation in the country.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has asked the enforcement agencies to treat documents, including those related to fitness, permits, driving licence and registration, as valid till October 31.
“Taking into consideration the grim situation still continuing due to condition for prevention of COVID-19 across the country, it is advised that the validity of all above referenced documents…whose extension of validity could not, or was not likely to be granted due to lockdown and which has expired since February 1, 2020 or would expire by October 31, 2021, the same may be treated as valid till October 31,2021,” the road transport ministry said in a letter to all states and union territories.

Ever since COVID-19 pandemic broke out, the government has routinely extended the validity of the vehicle documents.
The government’s latest order requested all the states and union territories to implement the extension so that citizens and transporters do not face difficulties while commuting.
This will help citizens in availing transport related services who were facing difficulties in renewing their documents, while ensuring Covid-19 protocols, the ministry said.
