In a clash between the Border Security Force (BSF) and a group of cattle smugglers, one cattle smuggler was shot dead by the border guards while a jawan was seriously hurt on Sunday.

According to sources, a group of cattle smugglers attacked a patrolling party of the Border Security Force (BSF) near Ghoramara Char area under South Salmara Mankachar district in the early wee hours of Sunday.

The cattle smugglers attacked the BSF jawans’ patrolling party with sharp weapons at the Ghormara Char area.

The area is adjacent to the Indo-Bangladesh border under the South Salmara Mankachar district.

In retaliation, the BSF jawans also opened fire resulting in the death of one cattle smuggler on the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Somesh Ali, a resident of Fulkakata village in the South Salmara Mankachar district.

BSF sources revealed that one jawan, identified as Sunil Kumar, was seriously injured in the attack by the group of cattle smugglers.

The injured BSF jawan was admitted to the Dhubri Civil Hospital while the body of the cattle smuggler was taken to Dhubri Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

Sources revealed that the cattle smugglers snatched a rifle from the BSF which was later recovered by the police.

Top-level district police and BSF personnel rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
