A Bangladeshi criminal was killed in an encounter with Lucknow Police on Monday.

The Bangladeshi national has been identified as Hamza.

According to a media report, he was carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000.

“Hamza was the mastermind of three dacoities which took place each in Lucknow and Varanasi in a span of last two years,” a media report quoted Nilabja Choudhary, Lucknow joint commissioner of police, crime as saying.

Police officer Choudhary informed that Hamza had a record of committing robberies in four states including Delhi.

Choudhary said Hamza was a resident of Khulna district in Bangladesh.

He entered India paying a bribe of Rs 10,000 along with his gang members, Choudhary said.

The Lucknow joint commissioner of police officer further said the name of Hamza surfaced during the questioning of three members of the same gang arrested last week.

The report quoted Sanjiv Suman, deputy commissioner of police, east zone as saying that around 2.45 am, a police patrol spotted some persons wielding guns near Lohia park in Gomtinagar and asked them to stop.

The men began running following which police personnel chased them, but assailants also opened fire at the police team while trying to flee the scene, he said.

“The police opened fire in reply. During the exchange of fire, a miscreant suffered injuries and fell on the ground while the others managed to escape,” Suman added.

Later, the injured person was taken to the nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Police said three cops also suffered injuries during the exchange of fire.
