The Indian Army paid tribute to Balamdini Ekka, wife of Bangladesh Liberation War hero, Lance Naik Albert Ekka as she passed away in her village at Gumla in Jharkhand on Friday.

Balamdini Ekka was 91 years old at the time of her demise.

Lance Naik Albert Ekka was the only war hero of Bangladesh Liberation War, who won the Param Veer Chakra.

The Eastern Command of the Indian Army on its Twitter handle said wreths were laid on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff.

Lance Naik Albert Ekka is now survived by his son, Vincent Ekka.

“#IndianArmy paid homage to Smt Balamdina Ekka, wife of Lance Naik Albert Ekka, PVC who passed away today at her village in Gumla, Jharkhand at the age of 91. Wreaths were laid on behalf of COAS. Survived by son Bhisent,” the Eastern Command of Indian Army tweeted on Friday night.

Col Sajjad of Bangladesh Army sent his condolence message to the Commanding Officer of 14 Guards Regiment of India.

“Sir, I received a news that the wife of only PVC in Bangladesh Liberation War Lance Naik Albert Ekka, Mrs. Balamdini Ekka died today.  I had visited her village Jari, District Gumla in Jharkhand and stayed a day with the family,” the letter from Col Sajjad said.

“She came to Dhaka with her son Vincent Ekka to receive the ‘Friend of Liberation War Honour’ in 2012. I arranged for them to visit Gangasagar, the place of Ekka’s martyrdom for saying prayers as per her desire.”

“I also accompanied her and  her son Vincent for the 7 hours journey. It was a very emotional visit for her as she prayed in the spot of Ekka’s martyrdom. Thousands of villagers stood in solemn silence. Later, I also met her two times.”

“She had great affection for me and told me she feels I am her eldest son. May Almighty grant her soul eternal peace. My condolences with the family of Ekka for this loss. Regards – Sajjad,” the letter said.
