Bangladesh’s Hindu Mahajot leader Govind Pramanik has asked Indian government to stop the NRC update process in Assam.

“More than one million Bengali Hindus have been excluded from NRC in Assam. It worked more against our people,” Pramanik told Northeast Now.

He said Delhi’s plan to extend NRC process to West Bengal and other Indian states would cause great harm to Bengali Hindus.

The plans for bringing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, apparently to give back citizenship to Hindus who were excluded from NRC, will complicate matters for them.

“It is only making us a target in both Bangladesh and also in Northeast India. Our people are used as pawns in chessboard and that should stop,” Pramanik said.

He said three Hindu men have been murdered recently in Bangladesh and a Hindu woman has been raped.

“Delhi does something and we face the retaliation. This cannot go on,” Pramanik said.
