The members of the Bajali Anchalik Committee of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) led by its general secretary Biju Bhatta blocked the National Highway 31 (NH 31) in protest against the police’s inability to arrest the culprit who raped a minor girl in Bajali on February 12.
A 14-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by a married man at Malipara area of Bajali in Barpeta on Monday evening. An FIR was lodged in this regard. The victim is a student of Class X.
The members of the Bajali Anchalik Committee of the AIDWA went to the Patacharkuchi Police Station and shouted slogans demanding immediate arrest of the alleged rapist, Adhoy Malakar. They also submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Officer-in-Charge of the Patacharkuchi Police Station demanding arrest of the alleged rapist, who is still absconding.
According to the family members of the victim, on Monday evening at around 7 when the girl went outside her home in search of her father, 45-year old Adhoy Malakar caught her and forcibly took her to the backside of his furniture store and raped her. Adhoy is a neighbour of the victim.
The victim’s family members claimed that Adhoy also threatened the minor girl saying that he has got some of her naked pictures which he would leak if she tells about the incident to her parents.
But the victim after returning home told her family members about the incident. As the news of the rape incident spread as wildfire, the locals in the area got angry and damaged the furniture store of Malakar.
However, sensing danger, Malakar immediately fled from the scene and escaped. After the girl reported about the incident to her family members, the family members lodged an FIR with the Patacharkuchi Police Station against the accused. The incident has created shockwaves in the locality.
