Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati along with Indian National Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday asked the Supreme Court to intervene in the alleged land scam that is being reported from Ayodhya.
She termed the issue to be serious one said that the probe should be a high-level one and the Supreme Court should intervene.

There have been several reports of family members of several ministers and officials in UP having acquired land at throwaway prices near the Ram Mandir site in Ayodhya.

There are claims that even relatives of commissioner-level officers, sub-district magistrates (SDM), and deputy inspector general (DIG) of police have bought land near the site.
Although the Chief Minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath had announced an inquiry into the matter, demand for Supreme Court intervention has risen.

Priyanka Gandhi said that the probe announced by the UP Government is just an eyewash and the matter should be looked on by the Supreme Court of India.
She said that as the Ram temple is being built under its order, the Supreme Court should take suo motu cognizance and intervene.
Gandhi said that the BJP leaders were looting and hurting people’s faith.
