Assam government on Tuesday announced that physical classes in all the educational institutions of the state will start from October 19, 2021.
The Assam education department issued on Tuesday said that physical classes for 9, all undergraduate and postgraduate in educational institutions in the state will resume from October 1, 2019.

The department has also issued a fresh set of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)s.
As per the SOPs, the re-opening of physical classes in educational institutions is based on the criteria that the COVID-19 positivity rate is below 2 percent in the districts.

Lower Primary Schools (Class I to V):
Physical classes will re-open from October 19, 2021.
Classes will be held for 3 days a week for all classes from Class I to Class V.
In respect of Class I, II, and III, formal classes will be conducted every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
In respect of classes IV and V, formal classes will be conducted every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Upper Primary Schools (Class VI to VIII)
Physical classes will reopen from October 19, 2021.
Classes will be held three days a week for all the classes from VI to VIII
In respect of class VI formal classes will be conducted every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
In respect of class VII, formal classes will be conducted every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
In respect of class VIII, formal classes will be conducted every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Secondary Schools and Senior Secondary Schools (Class X to XII):
In respect of class IX, physical classes will start from October 1, 2021, and for class XI it will start from October 19, 2021, on day to day basis.
In respect of class XII and class X classes have started from October 6, 2021, and October 20, 2021, and it will continue until further orders on day to day basis.
The attendance of the students of classes IX to XII is based on parental consent and the same is not compulsory.
In addition to formal classes, online classes will also continue if found necessary.
Degree Colleges/Engineering colleges/Polytechnics/Teacher Training Colleges/ Universities:
In respect of Degree colleges/Engineering College/Polytechnics/Teacher training college/universities etc the same shall function normally on day to day basis as per academic calendar with effect from October 1, 2021.
The hostels of the educational institutions are allowed to open only for Class X, Class XII, Final year degree colleges, final year PG classes of Universities and Engineering Institutions.
There should not be more than 30 students in a section. The Head of the institution will assess the required number of sections and open sections accordingly.
All educational institutions shall continue to provide quality virtual option/online classes in addition to physical classes.
