Guwahati: Security forces in Assam while foiling different infiltration attempts have pushed back seven Bangladeshi nationals to their country over the past 24 hours.   

In the first instance, the Assam police on Monday apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals in the state’s Karimganj district and later pushed them back to their country.

The foursome – Sohil Hawladar, Shah Alam, Sourab Hawladar and Md Kawsar – had managed to sneak into Indian soil through the porous international borders in Karimganj when the police nabbed them.  

Later in the day, the state police along with the personnel of Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals, including two women, along the international borders.

The trio – Anowar Hussain, Nashrin Sheikh and Babil Shaik – were later pushed back to their country after completion of the legal formalities.

Influx of Bangladeshi nationals into the Northeastern states, including Assam, has been on the increase ever since the neighbouring country has witnessed a political unrest.    

The illegal immigrants sneak into India mostly through the porous borders in Assam and Tripura.

Several such infiltration bids have been foiled by the law enforcement agencies in the last two months.

Questioning of the apprehended individuals revealed that they entered the country in search of job opportunities in major Indian cities.
