Guwahati: Kaziranga National Park will officially conclude its 2025-26 tourism season on May 29, extending its earlier closure date by four days in response to a continued rise in tourist footfall.
Earlier, the park authorities had planned to close the UNESCO World Heritage site for visitors from May 25 ahead of the monsoon season. However, following persistent demand from tourists and stakeholders in the tourism sector, the park management revised its decision and decided to keep the park open until May 29.
The extension comes after the Kaziranga Hotel and Resort Association strongly appealed to the authorities to prolong the tourism season, citing the steady influx of domestic and international visitors to the wildlife destination.
The decision has brought considerable relief and excitement among tourists and local businesses alike, offering visitors additional time to experience the rich biodiversity and scenic beauty of Kaziranga before the onset of heavy monsoon rains.
Known globally for its population of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, Kaziranga continues to remain one of Indiaโs most sought-after wildlife tourism destinations. The extended operational period is also expected to provide a boost to the local hospitality and tourism industry, which depends significantly on the seasonal inflow of visitors.
With the tourism season now officially ending on May 29, authorities are expected to begin monsoon preparedness and conservation-related activities across the park area soon after closure.
