Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, July 18, announced a Rs 17,235-crore infrastructure investment to significantly upgrade road connectivity across the state.
Sharing the announcement on X, Sarma described the initiative as “one of the most ambitious connectivity overhauls in Assam till date.” The proposed package includes the four-laning of the Baihata CharialiโMission Chariali corridor, the construction of the Guwahati AirportโJalukbari Elevated Corridor, and a new bridge over the Brahmaputra linking Morigaon and Darrang.
“With a planned investment of Rs17,235 crore, we are driving one of the most ambitious connectivity overhauls in Assam till date,” the chief minister said.
According to the state government, the projects are aimed at improving regional connectivity, reducing travel time, and strengthening transport infrastructure between key locations across Assam. The proposed Brahmaputra bridge connecting Morigaon and Darrang is expected to provide an additional river crossing, enhancing links between north and south Assam.
The announcement aligns with the Assam government’s ongoing efforts to expand transport infrastructure, with the broader objective of supporting economic development, improving mobility, and creating more efficient connectivity across the state.
