Four years after becoming a full-fledged district, the world’s largest river island Majuli is all set to get the cricketing facilities.

An Assam Cricket Association (ACA) team led by its president Romen Dutta and secretary Devajit Saikia visited Majuli recently and began arrangements to provide the affiliation to the district association.

This has been done with the aim so that the cricketing activities can be started at the earliest.

It may be mentioned here that Majuli’s youngsters didn’t get the opportunity to take part in any cricketing activities after it was announced as a district in 2016.

It is worth mentioning here that the ACA will develop a cricket ground on the island with proper cricket facilities in the next several months.

“In the last four years, no players from the district could take part in any kind of cricket tournaments organized in the state by the ACA,” said ACA secretary Devajit Saikia.

“This was because Majuli’s cricket association didn’t have ACA affiliation. The youngsters and the cricketing talents suffered because of this,” he added.

“Keeping in mind the wellbeing of the players, we decided to take the initiative,” he added.

Majuli’s cricket body will now be affiliated to ACA as per the constitution, he further informed.
