A case has been registered against a BJP leader from Margherita in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district for his alleged “derogatory” Facebook post against Nagaon MP Pradyut Bordoloi.

The case (no 306/19) was registered against BJP leader Rupam Deodhai Baruah at Margherita police station under section 67 of the IT Act and 294 (A), 500/506 of the IPC.

Margherita police registered the case after Congress leader Manoranjan Borgohain filed a complaint against Baruah.

The accused allegedly made derogatory comments against Nagaon MP Bordoloi on Facebook.

Rupam Deodhai Baruah, a former journalist, is media cell adviser of Margherita BJP MLA Bhaskar Sharma.

The officer-in-charge of Margherita police station said the matter is being investigated.

The Tinsukia Congress has demanded immediate arrest of BJP leader Baruah.
