No full-time CMD was appointed for the ONGC since its former chief Shashi Shanker retired on March 31, 2021.
Although CMDs are selected before a few months of the retirement of the incumbent, the CMD position was given to Subhash Kumar, former director (finance) who too retired end-December.
Following the retirement of Kumar, the top position was vacant for a couple of days.
Mittal was given the position as she is currently the senior-most on the board of directors.
