Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday, said that his government’s aim is to make India world’s biggest military power. 

PM Modi made this statement while inaugurating seven new defence companies on the occasion of Vijayadashami on Friday.

“Under self-reliant India campaign, goal is to make country world’s biggest military power on its own,” PM Modi said. 

These seven defence companies have been carved out of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB). 

The PMO stated that the government has decided to convert the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) from a department into seven fully government-owned corporate entities to improve self-reliance on the country’s defence preparedness.

The move is aimed to enhance functional autonomy, efficiency and to unleash new growth potential and innovation. 

PM Modi said: “I urge these seven companies to prioritise ‘research and innovation’ in their work culture. You’ve to take lead in future technology, give opportunities to researchers. I would also urge start-ups to collaborate with these seven companies.” 

The seven new defence companies are: Munitions India Limited (MIL); Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVANI); Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWE India); Troop Comforts Limited (TCL); Yantra India Limited (YIL); India Optel Limited (IOL); and Gliders India Limited (GIL).
